DIMAPUR: Deputy Commissioner Shamator, Arikumba, on Friday inspected landslide affected areas along National Highway 202 to assess the extent of damage and review restoration measures being undertaken.
Accompanied by officials from the district administration, national highways and the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), the team visited vulnerable stretches impacted by recent heavy rainfall and assessed the condition of the road, drainage and slope stability. The DC directed concerned agencies to take immediate measures to ensure commuter safety and expedite restoration works at the affected locations. He further stressed the importance of close coordination among all departments and agencies to facilitate timely clearance of debris, improve drainage where necessary and minimise disruptions to vehicular movement along the highway.
Meanwhile, following heavy rainfall and landslides in Mokokchung district, the PWD (NH), Tuli division undertook clearance operations along NH 02 between Tuli and Merangkong on July 23 to restore safe and smooth traffic movement. According to a DIPR report, machinery and personnel have been deployed to clear debris, and restoration efforts are progressing swiftly to reopen the affected stretch at the earliest.
