MONGSENYIMTI, JUL 25 (NPN): Angetyongpang Development Board (ADB), in collaboration with the Department of Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services (AH&VS), Government of Nagaland, launched the Livestock Insurance Scheme at Mongsenyimti Village Community Hall covering all areas under the 24 Angetyongpang Constituency.
Speaking at the programme, Tongpang Ozukum, advisor Water Resources Department, described the launch as a long awaited and much needed initiative for the people of the constituency.
He termed it a significant milestone and urged the gathering to take full advantage of the scheme. Expressing gratitude to the Animal Husbandry & Veterinary Services department for extending support, he announced that the premium for the first phase of the insurance scheme would be sponsored by him as encouragement, mentioning that the scheme would bring peace of mind and hope to the people.
Delivering an overview, Kuokehebi Gwirie, director AH&VS, explained that the scheme offers affordable protection for farmers, with the beneficiary premium share reduced to a uniform 15%. Each household can insure up to 10 cattle units, while the remaining 85% of the premium is subsidised by the Central and State governments.
He appreciated the MLA and Advisor’s gesture of sponsoring the first phase premium, calling it a “big step.” While noting that the scheme does not currently cover African Swine Fever (ASF), he informed that a vaccine is under development which would greatly benefit farmers once available.
Earlier, the welcome note was delivered by I. Meyionen Jamir, CIC (Retd) and member ADB, while the vote of thanks was proposed by Imlitoshi, member Angetyongpang Development Board . The programme concluded with discussion and interaction among participants and officials.
