DIMAPUR, JUL 25 (NPN): The Nagaland Foothills Road Coordination Committee (NFHRCC), at a marathon meeting held on July 25, reaffirmed its stand on the ongoing two-lane Foothills Road construction project and adopted a series of resolutions to be conveyed to the state government.
The committee reiterated its full support for the state government’s proposal to upgrade the existing Foothills Road to National Highway status under the proposed Trans Nagaland Highway project, which has been in the pipeline since 2018. It urged the government to pursue the matter with the Ministry of Road Transport and Highways (MoRTH).
NFHRCC also appealed to the state government to issue work orders, based on the administrative approval obtained during 2024-25 under the SASCI loan scheme, for completion of the second phase of the ongoing Foothills Road construction in the remaining divisions without bias, prejudice or further delay, while awaiting the proposed mega project.
The committee urged the concerned department not to inaugurate the Foothills Road project in a piecemeal manner, except for relevant bridges, until the entire stretch is completed.
Reiterating its stand maintained since 2013, NFHRCC said it would not allow any warring groups or individuals to levy taxes under any pretext along the Foothills Road construction stretch. It appealed to village council authorities to monitor the progress of the project in close coordination with the concerned department.
The committee further urged the department to expedite additional funding for bridge contractors in Baghty and Peren divisions, stating that they had been compelled to undertake works beyond the scope of the original DPR, which appeared to be deficient.
