IMPHAL, JUL 26 (NPN): Commando unit of Manipur police on Sunday recovered a cache of 29 arms with ammunition during an intelligence‑based operation at Wakha Ching under Porompat police station, Imphal East.
Acting on reliable inputs, teams led by Dr. S. Ibomcha Singh, officer‑in‑charge of the commando unit and holding additional charge of 6th IRB commandant, launched a search in the jungle area of Wakha Hill, opposite Shelloi Langmai Composite Farm.
Four suspicious plastic bags were detected, containing five SLRs, four INSAS rifles, two AK Ghataks, one INSAS LMG, six .303 rifles, three DBBLs, seven SBBLs, a pump action gun, one Lathode bomb, 530 live rounds of .303, 64 rounds of 7.62 SLR, 19 rounds of INSAS, six rounds of 5.56 carbine, 40 drill cartridges and 17 chargers.
Police said further searches are underway to trace more hidden arms. The operation formed part of ongoing security force measures in vulnerable areas of the state.
In a separate operation on Saturday, security forces recovered a 12‑bore rifle, a locally made pumpi, an improvised mortar shell, an IED and nine live rounds from Shangkai and Mongkot Chepu villages under Litan police station, Ukhrul district.
Meanwhile, in intelligence‑based operations against extortion and criminal activities, four militants belonging to proscribed outfits were arrested. Two cadres of UNLF (P), identified as Mutum Seitaraj Singh (31) and Thounaojam Rakesh Meitei (35), were apprehended from Thoubal Bazar for alleged involvement in recruitment.
Two cadres of Kangleipak Communist Party (City Meitei) were also arrested—Yaikhom Abhinash Meetei (26) from Kongpal Khongkham Leikai, Imphal East, and Urikhinbam Malemnganba (30) from Thongju Part‑II, Imphal West.
