DIMAPUR, JUL 27 (NPN): Nagaland’s lone Lok Sabha MP, S. Supongmeren Jamir, has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi seeking immediate intervention and emergency relief for the state in the wake of widespread destruction caused by the ongoing monsoon.
In his letter, Jamir highlighted the extensive damage caused by incessant rainfall, landslides and floods across Nagaland, particularly in Mon and Mokokchung districts, where lives have been lost, houses destroyed and livestock swept away.
He also pointed out that roads and bridges in several districts have suffered extensive damage, disrupting communication and cutting off the supply of essential commodities to affected areas.
Expressing concern over the plight of people in remote and interior villages, the MP said many students have been stranded due to damaged roads and disrupted communication networks.
He acknowledged the Indian Army’s helicopter services for providing much-needed assistance in inaccessible areas.
Describing the situation as a humanitarian crisis, Jamir urged the Prime Minister to treat the matter with utmost urgency and declare emergency relief measures for Nagaland.
He appealed to the Centre to provide immediate assistance for rescue and rehabilitation operations, restoration of road connectivity and relief to affected families.
Jamir said the people of Nagaland require timely support from the Central government to overcome the crisis and rebuild their lives.
