DIMAPUR: The five day North East NSS Festival 2026 commenced on July 27 at Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, bringing together NSS volunteers from all eight Northeastern states under the theme “Viksit Bharat.”
Gracing the inaugural session at RCEMPA, Jotsoma, advisor of School Education, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome called upon NSS volunteers to uphold the ideals of selfless service, leadership and national integration. He lauded the organisers for providing a common platform to celebrate the spirit of service, cultural diversity and unity, and said the festival offers opportunities to build friendships, exchange ideas and inspire positive change.
Conveying his best wishes, Dr. Yhome expressed hope that participants would return with lasting friendships, valuable experiences and renewed inspiration to serve society.
Ruokuovituo Zatsu, State NSS Officer, Nagaland, informed that the festival will feature cultural exchange, quiz competition, technical sessions, sightseeing and cleanliness drives. Around 300 NSS volunteers have registered for the event.
An introductory note was presented by D. Carthigueane, Regional Director, NSS, North Eastern Region. The inaugural programme was chaired by Dr. Subenthung P. Tsopoe, Programme Officer, NSS, Kohima Science College, Jotsoma, while Kivipu Jimomi, Chaplain, CCP, KSCJ offered the invocation. Dr. Temjenwabang, principal, Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma delivered the welcome address, and NSS volunteer Elvina Khangshou presented a special number.
The valedictory programme on July 31 will be graced by Roko Angami, OSD (Sports), Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland.
The festival is organised by State NSS Cell Nagaland and hosted by Kohima Science College (Autonomous), Jotsoma in collaboration with the Regional Directorate of NSS, Guwahati, Ministry of Youth Affairs & Sports, Government of India.
