DIMAPUR: In remembrance of the victims of the July 19 landslide at Defence Colony, Mon Town, the Konyak Baptist Church Mon (KBCM) organised a prayer and candlelight service on Sunday.
According to a DIPR report, Deputy Commissioner Mon, Wennyei Konyak thanked KBCM for organising the service in honour of those who lost their lives in the tragedy. He expressed sympathy to the bereaved and injured families, encouraging them to remain strong and seek God’s comfort for a brighter future.
The DC also conveyed solidarity for the two bodies that could not be retrieved despite six days of continuous search and rescue operations by government agencies and citizens using available machinery.
He urged the people to stand united during such catastrophes and rebuild the town damaged by the landslides. Commending the cooperation and sacrifices of 42 Assam Rifles Mon, Police, SDRF, NGOs and volunteers from all wards, he called upon the community to keep humanity first, remain united and be prepared to face future eventualities.
He further expressed gratitude to the State Government led by Chief Minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio and the nine elected members of Mon district for their love and support during the tragedy.
During the service, testimonies were shared by Yinai, husband of late Pomei, and Hetwang, the lone survivor of his family. Minister CL John and his wife were also present. Short speeches were delivered by Konyak Union president Yamao Konyak, Konyak Students’ Union president Temwang Konyak, and the ENSF president.
The Message of Hope and candle lighting was led by Rev. H. Moba Konyak, pastor of KBCM.
