DIMAPUR, JUL 28 (NPN): The Indian Air Force (IAF) on Monday concluded its six-day humanitarian air operation in Nagaland after airlifting 6.85 metric tonnes of relief materials and evacuating 64 stranded passengers from flood-affected areas of Longleng district.
According to NSDMA report, two IAF helicopters transported 3.30 metric tonnes of essential relief materials to EAC Headquarters, Namsang, and 3.55 metric tonnes to Tamlu Headquarters.
Following the delivery of relief supplies, the helicopters evacuated 22 stranded passengers from Tamlu during the first sortie, another 19 passengers during the second sortie and 23 passengers, including one child, from Longleng during the final sortie, bringing the day’s total to 64 evacuees. The passengers included students and patients.
With all relief materials earmarked for EAC Headquarters, Namsang and Tamlu Headquarters successfully delivered, the IAF concluded its deployment in support of the Nagaland government’s flood relief operations. However, as the final sortie was completed after 5 p.m., the helicopters and personnel remained at Dimapur overnight and are scheduled to return to their base on July 29.
The report stated that over the six-day mission, the IAF played a key role in ensuring the uninterrupted delivery of relief supplies and the safe evacuation of stranded residents despite adverse weather and difficult terrain.
The State government expressed gratitude to the Indian Air Force for its professionalism, commitment and timely humanitarian assistance, stating that its support had significantly strengthened the state’s disaster response efforts.
Relief aid through DDMAs: NSDMA
NSDMA has directed that all relief and rescue operations at the district level be coordinated only through the respective District Disaster Management Authorities (DDMAs) in view of the extensive damage caused by heavy rainfall, landslides and flash floods across the state.
In a circular, secretary NSDMA Sentiwapang Aier said all NGOs, church organisations, civil society organisations and well-wishers intending to provide relief in cash or kind should route their assistance through the office of the Chairman, DDMA of the respective district.
The authority said the measure was necessary to avoid duplication and ensure that relief materials reach all affected families and villages in a smooth, equitable and accountable manner.
NSDMA has also circulated the contact details of the Additional Deputy Commissioners (ADCs), who are serving as Chief Executive Officers of the DDMAs, for all 17 districts to facilitate coordination of relief assistance.
The circular directed all concerned to treat the matter as most urgent and ensure compliance..
