DIMAPUR: Eastern Konyak Union (EKU), Myanmar paid a solidarity visit to Konyak Union (KU) at its head office in Mon on July 28. The delegation comprised P. M. Aman, president; K. Akham Honwang, general secretary; Ashah V. Anok, finance secretary; and R. Manjai, advisory board member.
During the visit, the delegation expressed condolences to the people of Mon district, particularly the families who lost loved ones in the recent landslide. EKU conveyed that the Eastern Konyak community in Myanmar stands with the people of Mon and shares their grief during this difficult time.
As a gesture of solidarity, EKU made a financial contribution to the Catastrophe Relief Fund established for landslide victims. Though modest, the contribution reflected EKU’s commitment to supporting fellow Konyaks in times of need.
EKU observed that the visit reaffirmed the long standing people to people ties between communities living along the India-Myanmar border. It expressed hope that such humanitarian initiatives would further strengthen friendship, mutual understanding and goodwill between the peoples of the two neighbouring countries, while promoting peace, cooperation and development in the border region.
Speaking on the occasion, EKU president P. M. Aman said the landslide had caused immense grief to the Eastern Konyak community in Myanmar. He extended condolences to bereaved families and expressed solidarity with all affected. He added that the contribution to the relief fund was a humble gesture of support, noting that bonds of kinship and culture transcend geographical boundaries.
The KU leadership received the delegation and thanked EKU for its concern and support. Both organisations joined in prayer for the bereaved families, the speedy recovery of the injured, and the safety of those engaged in relief and rehabilitation efforts.
On behalf of EKU, finance secretary Ashah V. Anok expressed gratitude to Konyak Baptist Church, Mon, for providing accommodation and warm hospitality to the delegation. EKU acknowledged the church’s generosity as a reflection of unity and fellowship among the Konyak people, and prayed for blessings upon its leadership and ministry.
