DIMAPUR: Japukong Students’ Conference (JKM) president, along with executive members, visited Noklangsangba Government High School, Lirmen, on July 27 to assess the situation following the severe landslides of July 19 that significantly damaged the school premises.
In a press release, JKM president, Angemangyang and general secretary, Tiarenla stated that during the visit, the team held a meeting with the Lirmen Village Council and discussed the extent of the damage. The assessment revealed that the school cannot continue functioning at its present location as the land has become highly unstable, with a strong possibility of further ground subsidence posing serious risks to students, teachers and staff.
With the summer break nearing its end, JKM noted that despite temporary measures, there is an urgent need for a new school building to ensure safety and uninterrupted education. The organisation stressed that continuing classes at the existing site would place lives at considerable risk.
In view of the damage and danger, JKM has appealed to the government and concerned authorities to take immediate notice of the situation and initiate necessary action for the construction of a new school building at the earliest. It strongly urged that the matter be treated with urgency to provide students a safe and conducive environment for learning without further delay.
