DIMAPUR: Nagaland Governor Nand Kishore Yadav visited Chümoukedima district and held an interaction with civil society organisations, government departments and beneficiaries of various government schemes at the DPDB Hall, DC Office Complex on Thursday. On arrival, the Governor was accorded a Guard of Honour, followed by the National Song and National Anthem.
According to a DIPR report, addressing the gathering, the Governor emphasized the importance of close coordination between government departments and civil society to ensure inclusive and sustainable development. He described Chümoukedima, one of Nagaland’s youngest districts, as the “Land of Opportunities”, reflecting its strategic location, economic potential, and the aspirations of its people. Highlighting the role of civil society in governance and community development, Yadav said development becomes more meaningful when institutions and civil society work together with shared responsibility. He noted that the review meeting provided an opportunity to assess progress, identify challenges, and explore practical solutions. He urged departments to ensure efficient and transparent implementation of government programmes so that benefits reach every deserving citizen.
Pointing to Chümoukedima’s rapid growth, the Governor said the district has immense potential to become a model in planned urban development, entrepreneurship, education, healthcare, tourism, and employment generation. He appealed to civil society leaders to continue promoting peace, unity, and constructive participation, expressing confidence that with commitment and teamwork, the district would live up to its identity as the “Land of Opportunities.”
DC Chümoukedima, Polan John, chaired the first session and presented an overview of the district. He noted that Chümoukedima, created as Nagaland’s 15th district in December 2021, is widely known for its potential in agriculture, tourism, logistics, and infrastructure. Key assets include the Agro-Food Processing Unit at Ganeshnagar, the Collection and Processing Centre at Rüzaphema and Bamboo Resource and Honey Bee Mission Centres.
The DC further highlighted that the district hosts four universities, premier educational institutions, Nagaland’s only airport, and expanding rail and road connectivity. Major infrastructure projects such as gas pipelines, national highways, healthcare facilities, IT parks, tourism infrastructure and sports facilities are underway. Despite being relatively new, he said its strategic location positions Chümoukedima as a hub for socio-economic growth.
The programme also featured interactions with representatives of the Chakhroma Public Organisation (CPO), Western Sümi Hoho (WSH), NTUCT and Hindu Samaj, who shared their views and concerns. The second session, moderated by SDO (Civil) Chümoukedima Headquarters, Shreyansee Jain, included presentations by the District Programme Officer (Social Welfare), District Agriculture Officer and PMU (NHIIDCL), Dimapur. The Governor also interacted with beneficiaries of government welfare schemes to understand their experiences and the impact of initiatives.
