Human trafficking a grave violation of human rights, says NCW chief

NEW DELHI, JUL 30 (PTI): The National Commission for Women (NCW) Chairperson Vijaya Rahatkar on Thursday reaffirmed an “unwavering commitment” to combating human trafficking in all its forms and protecting the dignity, rights and freedom of every individual, saying the crime is a “grave violation of human rights” that disproportionately affects women and children. On the occasion of the World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, observed on July 30, Rahatkar said, “We must strengthen prevention, ensure swift justice, protect and rehabilitate survivors, and hold traffickers accountable.” “On World Day Against Trafficking in Persons, we reaffirm our unwavering commitment to combating human trafficking in all its forms and protecting the dignity, rights, and freedom of every individual. Human trafficking is a grave violation of human rights, disproportionately affecting women and children,” the NCW chief said in a post on X. “The fight against trafficking demands united action from government agencies, law enforcement, civil society, communities, and every citizen. Through awareness, vigilance, technology, and coordinated efforts, we can break the chains of exploitation and build a safer, more just society,” she said.
Rahatkar said the NCW “remains committed to ensuring that no survivor is left without justice, dignity, or support.” “Together, let us stand against trafficking and uphold every person’s right to live with freedom, safety, and dignity,” she added.
