DIMAPUR, JUL 31 (NPN): Eastern Nagaland College Students’ Union (ENCSU) has appealed to the state government to expedite the construction and operationalisation of New Model Degree Colleges at Noklak and Shamator, describing the projects as crucial for ensuring equitable access to higher education in the region.
In a representation addressed to chief minister, ENCSU president Mankap C. Konyak and secretary Pongo P. Khiamniungan said the sanctioning of two colleges had raised hopes among students, but expressed concern over the slow pace of implementation.
The union said prolonged delays were undermining the objective of providing quality higher education in Eastern Nagaland, where students have long faced inadequate educational infrastructure.
According to ENCSU, many students from the region have been forced to travel long distances, bear significant financial burdens or abandon their studies due to the lack of higher educational institutions. It maintained that establishment of the colleges was not merely a development project but a long-overdue commitment to educational equity and balanced regional development.
ENCSU has appealed to the state government to accord the projects the highest priority by immediately releasing the required funds, expediting administrative and technical procedures, fixing definite timelines for completion, and closely monitoring the projects until both colleges become fully operational. Stating that every delay adversely affected the future of countless students, ENCSU urged the chief minister to intervene and ensure the projects were completed at the earliest.
