NH dissolves executive council, to elect new leadership in 3 months

SENAPATI, JUL 31 (AGENCIES): Naga Hoho on Friday dissolved its existing Executive Council during its 3rd Federal Assembly held at S.M. Sha Hall, Rikhumai Taphou, Senapati, and resolved to elect a new leadership within the next three months, Ukhrul Times report stated.
The assembly, attended by representatives of various Naga tribes from Nagaland and Manipur, began with a minute’s silence in memory of those who lost their lives in the ongoing conflict in Manipur.
Addressing the gathering, Naga Hoho speaker Pauheu Newme called for unity among Nagas, urging the people to rise above tribal and sectional interests.
Naga Hoho president Sulanthung Lotha reaffirmed the organisation’s commitment to Naga unity and urged the Government of India to resolve the long-pending Naga political issue.
“Only through unity can we safeguard our identity, strengthen our society, and build a brighter future for the coming generations,” Lotha said.
He also appealed to the Centre to settle the Naga political issue “based on the agreements that have already been reached”, saying an honourable and inclusive solution was essential for lasting peace.
The business session of the assembly was held behind closed doors, with media barred from the proceedings.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the house announced the dissolution of the present executive council and resolved that a new executive council would be constituted within three months. Until the election of the new leadership, Pauheu Newme will oversee the affairs of the Naga Hoho in an interim capacity.
