WOKHA, AUG 1 (NPN): A 53-year-old man died after sustaining a fatal head injury during a scuffle with his son at Lakhuti village under Sanis police station on the evening of July 31. Police have arrested the accused and registered a suo motu case.
Additional Superintendent of Police, Wokha, Biren Lotha, said Sanis police station received information about the incident around 8:30pm, following which the officer-in-charge rushed to the village and completed the necessary legal formalities. The deceased was identified as Nongothung Yanthan (53), while the accused is his son, Yanpothung Yanthan (28), who remains in police custody.
According to the Addl.SP, preliminary investigation revealed that the incident occurred around 7pm following a family dispute. The deceased, allegedly under the influence of alcohol, reportedly chased a family member with a machete. His son allegedly intervened to disarm him, during which a scuffle broke out and the deceased fell, suffering a fatal head injury.
Family members initially believed he would regain consciousness, but after 10-15 minutes found him unresponsive and noticed the head injury. Police were then informed.
A village official said the deceased struck his head on a rock after falling during the scuffle. The official added that the accused did not flee and remained at the house until police arrived and took him into custody.
The body was handed over to the family after legal formalities. Police said investigation was underway.
