DIMAPUR, AUG 1 (NPN): Nagaland has received Rs. 524 crore as its share of an additional Rs. 1.09 lakh crore tax devolution released by the Centre to states, aimed at strengthening state finances and accelerating capital and development expenditure.
According to a Finance Ministry statement, the additional instalment has been released ahead of the normal monthly tax devolution due on August 10, reaffirming the Centre’s commitment to support states in funding development projects and capital spending.
Among the North Eastern states, Assam received Rs. 3,413 crore, Arunachal Pradesh Rs. 1,920 crore, Manipur Rs. 762 crore, Meghalaya Rs. 849 crore, Mizoram Rs. 618 crore, Tripura Rs. 943 crore, Sikkim Rs. 365 crore, and Nagaland Rs. 524 crore.
Nationally, Uttar Pradesh received the highest allocation of Rs. 19,208 crore, followed by Bihar (Rs. 10,845 crore), Madhya Pradesh (Rs. 8,010 crore), West Bengal (Rs. 7,866 crore) and Maharashtra (Rs. 7,022 crore).
The Finance Ministry said the additional release was intended to strengthen the financial position of states and enable them to accelerate developmental and capital expenditure.
The Centre had similarly released an additional Rs. 1,01,603 crore in tax devolution to states in October last year, over and above the regular monthly instalment, to support development and social welfare spending.
Meanwhile, the Centre’s fiscal deficit rose to Rs. 3.07 lakh crore during the first quarter of the 2026-27 financial year, accounting for 18.2 per cent of the full-year Budget Estimate.
During the corresponding period of the previous fiscal year, the fiscal deficit stood at Rs. 2.81 lakh crore, or 17.9 per cent of the annual Budget Estimate.
Meanwhile, Nagaland chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio has expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman for the release of the advance instalment of tax devolution to Nagaland.
