Nagaland Paravolley Association launched in Kohima

DIMAPUR, AUG 1 (NPN): In a major boost to para-sports in the state, the Para Volleyball Federation of India (PVFI) formally launched the Nagaland Paravolley Association (NPVA) during a foundational awareness symposium held in Kohima on July 31.
According to a DIPR report, the launch marks Nagaland’s integration into the PVFI’s nationwide grassroots expansion programme aimed at identifying and developing para-athletes for national and international competitions, including the upcoming World Championship in China.
The symposium was attended by senior government officials, including the secretary of Youth Resources and Sports, who graced the occasion as chief guest. The programme was chaired by NPVA general secretary-designate Carrey YA Konyak, who welcomed the gathering and highlighted the state’s commitment to promoting inclusive sports.
Speaking at the event, PVFI national executive member and NPVA president-designate Hachamo Patton said para-sports could transform perceptions of persons with disabilities by providing them with opportunities to excel at the highest level. He expressed confidence that Nagaland’s youth possess the potential to compete successfully on national and international platforms through the newly formed association.
The technical aspects of Para Sitting Volleyball were presented by PVFI primary consultant Shreyaman Bhargava, who explained the rules of the sport and the international medical classification system to ensure fair competition. He also outlined the federation’s ongoing expansion plan to establish structured para-volleyball programmes in 453 districts across 22 states.
A highlight of the programme was the unveiling of the NPVA logo by the special guests, marking the formal establishment of the association.
During an interactive session, representatives from the departments of Social Welfare and Youth Resources and Sports, along with the Nagaland Olympic Organisation, assured support for the development of para-volleyball in the state. Discussions focused on providing infrastructure, equipment assistance and access to sports facilities to enable athletes from across Nagaland to participate in the sport.
The programme concluded with a vote of thanks by NPVA vice president-designate Kethose Chuzho, who expressed gratitude to the state government and the PVFI for supporting the initiative. With the formation of the NPVA, Nagaland aims to identify, train and field a competitive team for future National Para Sitting Volleyball Championships and prepare athletes to represent India at the international level.
