India celebrated a historic achievement in para athletics as Soman Rana claimed the country’s first-ever Commonwealth Games gold in the Men’s Shot Put F57 event with a winning throw of 13.40m.
Compatriot Shubham Juyal secured silver with 13.28m, giving India its maiden one-two finish in the event.
Soman’s triumph marked another milestone in an inspiring career that began after surviving a mine blast injury while serving with the Indian Army in Jammu and Kashmir.
Shubham’s silver medal completed his remarkable journey from losing a leg in a motorcycle accident in 2022 to standing on the Commonwealth Games podium.
