DIMAPUR, AUG 5 (NPN): Pochury Hoho (PH) has urged the National Highways and Infrastructure Development Corporation Ltd. (NHIDCL), the state government and the executing agency to immediately expedite construction of the long-delayed NH-29 package-II (Kikruma) project on the Kohima-Jessami road.
In a press release, PH president Chonpa Jurry and secretary Thosiepa Katiry expressed concern over the prolonged delay despite repeated assurances, saying the condition of the highway has caused immense hardship to the public and hampered the socio-economic development of the region.
Describing the Kohima-Jessami road as the principal lifeline linking Phek, Meluri, Kiphire and Shamator districts with state capital, PH said the deteriorating road has severely affected commuters, patients, students, government employees, traders and transporters by increasing travel time and transportation costs, compromising safety and disrupting essential services.
The Hoho also extended support to the concerns raised by the Chakhesang Public Organisation (CPO) and welcomed the Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed before the Gauhati High Court, Kohima Bench, seeking judicial intervention for the timely completion of the project.
Calling for immediate and time-bound action, PH urged NHIDCL, Ratna Infrastructure Projects Pvt. Ltd. and all concerned authorities to accord the project the highest priority while ensuring transparency, accountability and efficiency in its execution.
The Hoho said reliable road connectivity was essential for equitable development, healthcare, education, trade, tourism and regional integration, adding that the prolonged delay has denied people the benefits of critical infrastructure for far too long.
Maintaining that completion of NH-29 Package-II was a matter of public welfare and regional development, PH called on the authorities to fulfil their responsibilities with urgency and deliver a safe, dependable and all-weather highway without further delay.
