Sub-panel constituted in Mkg to boost employment and entrepreneurship

DIMAPUR: In a significant step toward fostering local talent and promoting economic self-reliance, the Deputy Commissioner of Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, has issued a notification constituting a specialized Sub-committee under the District Skill Committee.
According to a DIPR report, the newly formed body aims to promote skill development, entrepreneurship and sustainable livelihood opportunities across the district through coordinated efforts of key stakeholders. The notification comes into immediate effect and will remain active until further orders.
The Sub-committee comprises a diverse panel of administrative officials, educational leaders and community representatives. The ADC Mokokchung, will serve as the convener, while principal of Government ITI Mokokchung, T. Imlisunep Ao, has been appointed as the member secretary. Other members include joint director SARS and president of Mokokchung Ao Officers Telongjem, Lipokonen Jamir; associate professor at Fazl Ali College, Dr. P. Tiatemsu; the president of Ao Kaketshir Mungdang (AKM); youth secretary of ABAM, Impur, deputy chairperson of Mokokchung Municipal Council, Lanuakum; a representative from Ao Lanur Telongjem; principal of ICIT Mokokchung, Lanusenla; district employment officer Mokokchung, Lucy Lhousineino; and SDO (C)/EAC (Dev).
According to the official terms of reference, the committee is tasked with identifying district-specific skill gaps and mapping emerging livelihood opportunities aligned with local economic potential. A central focus will be placed on promoting convergence among government departments, educational institutions, industry bodies and community organisations. The committee will encourage innovation, entrepreneurship and market-ready vocational training, with special emphasis on empowering youth and women. It will also work to preserve and commercialize traditional skills, local crafts and indigenous knowledge.
To ensure accountability and progress, the Sub-committee is mandated to meet at least once a month. It will evaluate ground realities, benchmark best practices and submit monthly progress reports detailing activities, findings and strategic recommendations directly to the Deputy Commissioner’s office. With the chairperson’s approval, the committee also holds the authority to co-opt subject-matter experts and department representatives as special invitees to address specific development agendas.
