DIMAPUR: Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Kohima, in collaboration with the Centre for Financial Literacy (CFL) Bhandari block and SBI Bhandari branch, conducted a financial literacy camp at Yanmhon village, Wokha district, on August 3 at the community hall.
Chairing the programme, Centre Manager, CFL Bhandari block, Zathungo Yanthan, highlighted the importance of financial literacy. He noted that while Nagaland boasts a literacy rate above 90 percent, practical skills in formal banking, budgeting, digital finance and investment remain low, with the state’s financial literacy rate standing at only 8 percent.
Cautioning participants, Yanthan advised maintaining “digital hygiene” while using mobile phones and internet banking.
He warned against trusting calls from unknown numbers claiming to be courier companies or law enforcement agencies seeking personal details such as OTPs or PINs, stressing that no genuine authority would request such information. He further urged users to enable two factor authentication for sensitive digital data.
Addressing the gathering as resource person, Manager RBI Kohima, T. Zou, said cybercriminal schemes have evolved with the growth of internet and online banking. He explained that fraudsters use identity theft, phishing, “digital arrest” and other social engineering tactics to defraud citizens, resulting in significant financial losses across India.
He clarified that “digital arrest” does not exist and advised victims not to panic but to report incidents to the cybercrime helpline 1930 or at cybercrime.gov.in.
Service Manager, SBI Bhandari branch, Aman, in his address, urged customers to keep their bank accounts active and updated to avoid them becoming inoperative.
