DIMAPUR, AUG 7 (NPN): The Mon District Petrol Pump Dealers Union (MDPPDU) has announced an indefinite shutdown of all fuel outlets across Mon district with effect from August 8, alleging continuous illegal taxation, extortion demands and threats by various Naga Political Groups (NPGs).
In a notice, the union said the decision was taken in response to persistent extortion, intimidation and security threats directed at petrol pump owners and operators in the district.
It stated that dealers had been operating under constant fear and financial coercion, making it impossible to continue business.
MDPPDU warned that the indefinite closure of fuel outlets was likely to severely disrupt daily life, public transport, emergency services and the supply of essential commodities across Mon district.
The union appealed to the state government, district administration, NGOs and law enforcement agencies to intervene immediately. It demanded adequate security guarantees and a permanent end to illegal extortion before normal operations could resume.
