Health dept issues clarification on Hepatitis services

DIMAPUR: Following a representation submitted by the Network of Nagaland Drugs and AIDS Organisation (NNagaDAO) seeking public clarification on news items and press advertisements related to World Hepatitis Day 2026, the Department of Health & Family Welfare, Nagaland has clarified that Hepatitis B and C screening tests are available free of cost at district hospitals, most CHCs, some PHCs and selected HWCs.
It informed that free viral load testing for Hepatitis B and C is available at district hospitals, while free treatment is also provided at district hospitals designated as treatment centres.
Districts have further been authorised to offer free baseline investigations such as Liver Function Test (LFT), Renal Function Test (RFT), Complete Blood Count (CBC), Ultrasound Sonography (USG) Abdomen, Fibroscan and Prothrombin Time to Hepatitis B and C positive patients.
The department added that for any information on National Viral Hepatitis Control Programme (NVHCP) services, individuals may contact the nearest government health facility.
