WOKHA, AUG 7 (NPN): Continuous rainfall triggered landslides at several locations across Wokha district on Friday, damaging property and disrupting road connectivity in parts of the district.
An old kutcha house at Etsutchukha Colony, located adjacent to NH-2 (formerly NH-61), was damaged after a landslide struck the area. The house, occupied by a family, was vacant at the time as its occupants were away on summer vacation. No casualties were reported.
A vehicle parked along the roadside also slipped during the heavy rainfall but did not collide with the house. Local volunteers later moved the vehicle to safety.
Meanwhile, multiple landslides were reported in parts of Elumyo and Humtso villages, completely blocking the road connecting Elumyo with the district headquarters. The disruption has affected the movement of essential commodities and created difficulties in transporting medical emergencies.
Officials from the Wokha district administration visited the affected areas later in the day to assess the damage and monitor the situation.
Authorities have urged residents, particularly those living in landslide-prone areas, to remain vigilant as the monsoon continues.
