Sikkim SIR: 37,724 names out of draft roll

Gangtok, Aug 7 (PTI): Names of 37,724 people have been left out of the draft electoral roll in Sikkim as they have not submitted their enumeration forms during Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of rolls, an official said on Friday.
Sikkim had 4,71,018 electors before the SIR of electoral rolls, of whom 4,33,294 Enumeration Forms were received and digitised, the official said.
CEO Raj Kumar Yadav said around 77 per cent of electors had been successfully mapped with the 2002 electoral roll during the door-to-door exercise. Around 1,25,822 notices were generated and 1,05,821 have been served, while 75,243 hearings have been conducted to verify the eligibility and documents of electors whose records require further scrutiny, officials said. The notices were primarily served to electors whose names could not be linked or mapped with the 2002 electoral roll, or whose details submitted in the enumeration forms required further verification.
Electors whose records were successfully mapped generally did not have to submit additional documents.
The last date for filing claims and objections was August 4.
Gangtok recorded the highest number of notices, with 35,107 generated and 29,781 served, followed by Namchi with 27,092 notices and Pakyong with 21,487.
Political parties have appointed 1,135 Booth Level Agents (BLAs) for the exercise, including 583 by SKM, 216 by BJP, 204 by Citizen Action Party-Sikkim and 132 by SDF.
The final electoral roll is scheduled to be published on September 6.
