DIMAPUR: A capacity building training programme for medical officers (MOs) under Dimapur district was organised on August 7 at the CMO’s Conference Hall to strengthen preparedness and response on key public health concerns, with sessions focusing on Ebola Virus Disease and zoonoses.
According to a press release from CMO Office Dimapur informed that Dr. Ito T. Yeptho, MO, District Hospital Dimapur, served as resource person for the session on Ebola, where he briefed participants on epidemiology, modes of transmission, clinical features, infection prevention and control measures, case definitions and reporting protocols. Emphasis was placed on early detection, safe sample collection and coordination with district surveillance units to ensure rapid response in suspected cases.
Dr. K. Pewezo Khalo, senior specialist, Microbiology Laboratory, District Hospital Dimapur, further briefed medical officers on protocols for collection, transport, testing and submission of samples from suspected Ebola cases.
In the second session on zoonoses, Dr. Molungtsungba, epidemiologist, IDSP Dimapur, highlighted the burden of zoonotic diseases in the region, common animal to human transmission routes and the importance of the One Health approach. Key points covered included rabies, anthrax, leptospirosis and other locally relevant zoonoses. He stressed intersectoral coordination between health, animal husbandry and community stakeholders for prevention, surveillance and control.
The release added that the training aimed to update medical officers on latest guidelines, strengthen diagnostic suspicion and reinforce reporting mechanisms under the Integrated Disease Surveillance Programme (IDSP).
