IMPHAL, AUG 10: Tension flared in Manipur’s Kangpokpi district on Monday after armed miscreants set several houses ablaze at Kailenjang village, located about five kilometres west of Senapati police station. The attack occurred around 1:30 p.m., with reports of gunfire and thick smoke rising from the settlement.
Kailenjang, a small village with seven to eight household clans, has a history of conflict dating back to the 1992 Naga-Kuki clashes. Though villagers had returned after peace was restored, recent tensions forced many residents, particularly women and children, to take shelter in Taphou Kuki. Unconfirmed reports suggest at least four houses were reduced to ashes in the arson.
Security forces rushed to the site following the incident.
