DIMAPUR: District Integrated Strategy for HIV/AIDS (DISHA), in collaboration with educational institutions and supported by the Nagaland State AIDS Control Society (NSACS), observed International Youth Day 2026 under the theme “Different Contexts, Common Aspirations” while launching the District Intensified IEC Campaign 2026 across Kohima, Mon and Phek districts.
Kohima: At Oriental College, Kohima, the programme began with a bike rally cum walkathon involving students and local bikers to spread awareness on HIV prevention, stigma reduction and youth participation. The rally was followed by a formal programme attended by students, faculty and DISHA officials. An awareness session on “Routes of HIV Transmission” was delivered by Pelevito Kiso, Cluster Prevention Officer, DISHA Kohima, who urged students to rely on accurate information and help dispel myths and misconceptions surrounding HIV.
Mon: At Wangkhao Government College (WGC), Mon, the event was organised in collaboration with the Red Ribbon Club (RRC). The programme featured songs, awareness sessions and keynote addresses. Longyim Tzudir, DPO DISHA, emphasised that youth are not merely beneficiaries of development but active agents of change. Dr. Supongmenla Walling, CMO Mon, launched the IEC campaign, highlighting shared aspirations of dignity, education, employment and sustainability. She urged youth to step forward as resilient leaders, declaring, “You are the engines of change.” HIV/STI testing services were also provided by the Mobile ICTC team.
Phek: At Government Higher Secondary School, Phek, the programme was graced by ADC Phek, Thejakhrienuo Nisa, as special guest. She emphasised the role of youth in shaping a sustainable future and officially launched the 3rd Round of IEC Campaign on HIV/AIDS, flagging off a motorbike rally to create awareness. Vezovo, president PTCSU, exhorted students to explore opportunities beyond government jobs and aim for sustainable careers. The programme also featured cultural presentations, keynote address by Mr. Kuduvo Kezo, DPO DISHA, and vote of thanks by Velato Nienu, AM&E DISHA.
