IMPHAL, AUG 12 (NPN): The Manipur government on Wednesday issued another 15‑day ultimatum to surrender illegal arms and ammunition, warning of strict legal action against non‑compliance.
Chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, speaking at a function on “Display on the Initiatives towards bringing normalcy in Manipur” at 1st Battalion Manipur Rifles Parade Ground, said anyone in possession of illegal weapons, whether in the hills or valley, must surrender them through their respective MLA or Superintendent of Police. He cautioned that failure to comply will invite legal action. Singh noted that earlier relaxations were given due to the crisis, but with the situation improving, there is no justification for retaining illegal weapons.
At the event, a massive cache of 1,422 arms, 7,010 rounds of ammunition and 1,137 explosives recovered between February 5 and August 11, 2026 was showcased. The CM termed the recovery a significant achievement in restoring peace and normalcy.
Singh highlighted peace outreach initiatives since the new government’s inception on February 4, including visits to previously inaccessible areas. He commended the efforts of DGP Mukesh Singh and senior officials of BSF, Assam Rifles, CRPF and other agencies for the recoveries. He also cited a breakthrough in Jiribam district, where representatives of Meitei, Kuki, Paite and Hmar communities came together for peace.
State home minister Govindas Konthoujam warned of strict action against extortionists and miscreants along national highways, adding that offenders may be booked under the National Security Act (NSA). DGP Mukesh Singh reported that 491 extremists were arrested during the operations. He added that intensified anti‑narcotics drives led to 72 NDPS cases, 117 arrests and seizure of large quantities of drugs.
The programme also featured the release of a publication titled “Manipur Marches to Peace” by the Department of Information and Public Relations, along with a short video on government initiatives.
Deputy chief minister Losii Dikho, minister for art & culture Khuraijam Loken Singh, MLAs, senior civil and police officials attended the event.
