Sub: Representation urging the Govt. of India to abolish present Dowry System/Laws.
Hon’ble Sir,
Most respectfully the Nagaland Tribes Council, the Apex Tribal Body of Nagaland State would urge your kind authority and the NDA (BJP government) to kindly abolish the present infamous practice called Dowry System prevailing in India for the following compelling rationals in the interest and for the welfare of the citizens of India in general and the daughters of India in particular.
- As per Times TV and other sources reports on 18/05/26 and subsequent days there is approximately 20 Dowry death in India on daily basis which claims atleast 7,200 lives of women in the country in a year is shocking, inhumane and totally unacceptable for the 21st century people of India!
- This social practice till today is evil and beastly similar to that of Sati practice in ancient India Hindu society that forced wife to jump into the pyre of her late husband was a kind of blind belief and practice that got stopped with the active help and cooperation of the then educated and enlightend Hindu communities during British Era of India.
- Likewise, it’s a shame, evil and inhumane to still continue this present Dowry System that murder young women/wives for none of their faults? but the society/samaj at large still tolerate and practice this Dowry system/murder for simple reason of their greediness for wealth and money and in that process of faulty judicial system the guilty/offenders get scot free most of the Dowry death cases.
- India being the Greatest Democracy in the world cannot afford to remain silent/mute on this very evil and inhumane and deliberate murder system/practice.
N.B. Think of what it takes parents/families to raise a girl child, educate them and give in marriage to other families by spending crores of rupees for the wedding and still remain haunted by many families with torture mentally and physical abuse and harassment and at last ended up by hanging/killing etc.etc. - Whereas, in other developed and Democratic at best countries even the Prime Minister or President of the country are caught and prosecuted if found guilty of violating/breaking countries laws and rules. Whereas, in our country the guilties/offenders gets free!
- It is therefore imperative and high time that our country should enact proper laws to do away with this Dowry System/Laws so as to preferred human values and honour especially for the helpless daughters of the country to give rights and justice at the earliest which is their fundamental and human rights.
The Nagaland Tribes Council further state that the present NDA (BJP government) enjoys 2/3 majority support in both Houses of the Parliament namely, Rajya Sabha and Lok Sabha. It is also our fervent and strong belief that no opposition parties would ever oppose such laws to abolish this medieval, outdated and regressive system called Dowry System.
Mr. Prime Minister, your Govt. is therefore requested once again to enact proper laws to abolish/ do away with this Dowry System/Laws which will bring much relief to the suffering daughters of the country dignity for the country in the eyes of the world.
