DIMAPUR, AUG 13 (NPN): Lok Sabha MP and chairman of the Airport Advisory Committee, Dimapur Airport, S. Supongmeren Jamir has urged Union Home minister to facilitate transfer of the remaining land occupied by Assam Rifles Training Centre and School, 3rd Mile, to Airports Authority of India (AAI) for expansion of Dimapur Airport. In a representation, Jamir cited official records showing that 392.72 acres of Dimapur airfield land were handed over to National Airports Authority (now AAI)
by the Defence Estates Officer, Jorhat Circle, in 1987. Subsequent correspondence and the Military Land Register reaffirmed the transfer. A joint survey-cum-verification report dated February 29, 2024, identified 148.58 acres as being under ARTC&S occupation.
On May 8, 2026, 18.8 acres at 3rd Mile were formally handed over to AAI for Phase-I development. Jamir has now sought transfer of the remaining 129.68 acres to enable expansion beyond Phase-I.
He said AAI has submitted Master Plans 1 and 2 to the state government, covering a new terminal building and additional aircraft parking bays, but land constraints continue to hamper development and have implications for infrastructure, safety and security.
Describing Dimapur Airport as Nagaland’s only airport and a critical air-connectivity gateway for the state and adjoining areas, Jamir urged the home minister to examine the documentary evidence and direct the concerned authorities to make the remaining land available to AAI.
He sought time-bound action so AAI can implement the planned infrastructure, enhance airport capacity, safety and long-term viability, and begin the next phases of development without further delay.
