PDCCI to observe half-day shutter-down today

DIMAPUR: Phek District Chamber of Commerce & Industry (PDCCI) has called upon all business establishments across Phek district to observe half-day shutdown on August 14 until 12:00 noon.
A press release by PDCCI stated that the observance was intended to remember and honour sacrifices of forefathers and those who contributed to the history and aspirations of Naga people. “Their sacrifices and struggles form an important part of our shared history and should remind every generation of the responsibility we carry towards our common future”, it stated. PDCCI further expressed believe that remembrance of past should also provide an opportunity for honest reflection on divisions and differences of the present, asserting that strength of our people lies not merely in remembering where we came from, but in our ability to rise above differences, build mutual understanding and work towards a peaceful and united future.
PDCCI thereby appealed all Naga Political Groups, national workers, civil society organisations, community leaders and public to strengthen cooperation, build trust and place larger welfare and future of Naga people above individual differences and interests.
The Chamber particularly urged Naga political leadership to reflect seriously on the need for greater unity, reconciliation and oneness. Acknowledging that differences may exist, the Chamber however asserted that differences should not become permanent barrier to cooperation, peace and collective aspirations of the people. It noted that the future generation should inherit not only history of our struggles, but also the wisdom to overcome divisions and build a common future, while adding that unity does not require absence of differences, but requires willingness to respect those differences while working together for the greater good. The half-day shutter-down was therefore intended as a collective expression of remembrance, reflection, unity, reconciliation and hope for a common future, rather than merely an observance of the past.
PDCCI further seeks full cooperation of all business establishments across Phek district and called upon all to use the occasion to reflect upon the shared history and renew their commitment towards Naga unity, reconciliation and oneness.
PTBA: The Pfutsero Town Business Association (PTBA) has informed that it will be observing half day shutter down on August 14, till 12 noon, as a mark of respect and remembrance of forefathers and in recognition of the historical journey and aspirations of the Naga people. The observance would be held under the theme, “Our Shared History, Our Common Future: A Call for Naga Unity, Reconciliation and Oneness”.
Dwelling on the observance, PTBA president, Vekusu Chuzho, stated that the half day closure was a mark of respect for the sacrifices made by the forefathers and an acknowledgement of the cooperation extended by national workers towards the business community in Phek district.
He added that the occasion should be viewed as an opportunity to strengthen unity among Naga Political Groups and work towards a common political future.
Chuzho further reminded that the business community has consistently advocated the principle of “One Government, One Tax”, as multiple taxations and collections have direct impact on business and local economy. It appealed all NPGs, leaders and national workers to rise above their differences and come together under one umbrella, with the larger interest of the Naga people, listen to one another and find a solution that best serves the Naga people. Other PTBA members who also dwelled on the half day shutter down, included, PTBA general secretary, Truvi Rhi and PTBA media secretary, Huveto Thuluo.
