Internationally acclaimed Polish guitarist and composer Marcin Patrzalek captivated music lovers at the Lariti Performing Centre here on August 12 as part of his Marcin – Art of Guitar Tour 2026.
The evening brought together international talent and Meghalaya’s grassroots music community, with artistes associated with the Chief Minister’s Meghalaya Grassroots Music Programme (CM-MGMP) performing ahead of Patrzalek.
The lineup featured Riffoff winner Leo Boys, Larger Than 90, Chegim Durama and LB King, showcasing the diversity of Meghalaya’s homegrown music scene.
Chegim Durama, the CM-MGMP’s Achiever of the Month – Music Edition from Garo Hills, performed alongside Leo Boys from Khasi Hills and Larger Than 90 from Jaintia Hills.
Patrzalek, known for combining fingerstyle and percussive guitar techniques with electronic and orchestral elements, delivered a mesmerising set in his signature style. His layered acoustic and electric instrumentation, complemented by mantra-style vocals, kept the audience spellbound.
Encouraging Meghalaya’s young musicians, Patrzalek said, “No matter where you are, anything is possible,” adding that music could be created “alone in a room, or in a shaded corner outside.”
The Polish guitarist also thanked the people of Meghalaya for their warm reception and said Shillong holds a special place in his heart. As part of the visit, Patrzalek interacted with local and emerging artistes, providing them an opportunity to exchange ideas with an internationally recognised musician.
The interaction aligned with the CM-MGMP’s efforts to create platforms for local musicians to develop their craft, gain exposure and explore wider professional opportunities. The programme has also created livelihood opportunities through busking gigs at tourist destinations across Meghalaya.
The Shillong concert thus went beyond an international performance, creating a shared platform for global and grassroots musicians. The Meghalaya leg of the tour was supported by the State government, Department of Tourism and CM-MGMP. (Correspondent)
