MOKOKCHUNG, AUG 14 (NPN): The new academic building of Mokokchung College of Teacher Education (MCTE), Yimyu was inaugurated on Friday inaugurated, marking a significant milestone in its journey to strengthen teacher education in Nagaland.
The new building was inaugurated by minister of for Higher Education and Tourism, Temjen Imna Along. Government officials, representatives from neighbouring villages, members of AKM, faculty, staff, student teachers and invitees attended the programme.
Addressing the gathering, Temjen Imna described the new infrastructure as a “big achievement” not only for MCTE but also for the people of Nagaland, Khensa village and the student community. He reminded that institutions were not merely physical structures but embody resilience and ideology. Stressing the need for perseverance and excellence despite Nagaland’s small population, he urged the State to strive for opportunities that would produce intellectuals, academicians, professors and scientists.
The minister also announced that a 40 bedded girls’ hostel would soon come up under PM USHA, and expressed hope that future infrastructure development would focus on quality and effective utilisation of facilities. He described teachers as “soldiers to build the future community” and encouraged them to carry out their responsibilities with dedication.
Earlier, the programme began with dedicatory prayer by Rev. Temsuwati, pastor, MTBA, followed by unveiling of the inaugural plaque and ribbon cutting by the minister. The gathering later moved to the multipurpose hall where the MCTE College Anthem was rendered. Principal Dr. T. Alemla Longkumer delivered the salutatory oration, tracing the institution’s journey since its inception in 2012 and acknowledged the support of Khensa Village Council and Yimyu Ward Council. She particularly credited Temjen Along’s support since 2018 for enabling the college to meet NCTE requirements and achieve the present milestone.
Student teachers presented a cultural number titled “Tangula Tasen (New Breath),” symbolising renewal and hope. Dr. Hukato Swu, joint director, Directorate of Higher Education, recalled challenges faced in 2019 when the college was on the verge of de recognition, and lauded the leadership of the minister and principal in overcoming them.
The technical report on the construction was presented by Er. Vikhepu Yeptho, Executive Engineer, PWD (Housing). Kerilhusa Peseyie, Assistant Professor and IQAC Coordinator, proposed the note of gratitude.
The newly inaugurated academic building is expected to significantly enhance the teaching learning environment and infrastructural capacity of MCTE, providing improved facilities for student teachers and strengthening its role in teacher education in Nagaland.
