DIMAPUR, AUG 15 (NPN): State chief minister Neiphiu Rio on Saturday launched and virtually commissioned several government initiatives as part of the 80th Independence Day celebrations at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza here.
Rio launched the Nagaland Integrated Information System (NIIS) at the Nagaland Civil Secretariat Plaza here on the occasion of the 80th Independence Day.
Anchored by the Department of Information & Public Relations (DIPR) with support from the Ministry of Electronics & Information Technology (MeitY), the NIIS is a digital governance initiative designed to integrate government information and activities into a unified platform and improve transparency, efficiency and citizen engagement.
The system will serve as a single source of information on government activities, providing citizens access to news, photographs, videos and other State-related information. It will also integrate Government-to-Citizen (G2C) services through APIs, enabling citizens to access various government schemes and digital services through a centralised platform.
Rio also virtually inaugurated the NIIS Hub at the Directorate of Information & Public Relations, Kohima. The hub will function as the central control and coordination unit, overseeing data management, integration, validation and dissemination.
Advisor, Information & Public Relations and Soil & Water Conservation, Daochier I Imchen, visited the NIIS Hub and congratulated the department and those involved in the project. The NIIS can be accessed through niisnagaland.in and the Google Play Store.
Rio also launched the Education Management Information System (EMIS), a centralised digital platform aimed at digitising educational records, improving resource allocation, enabling real-time reporting and strengthening transparency and data-driven decision-making in the school education sector.
EMIS currently covers over 1,800 government schools, more than 1 lakh students and over 22,000 teaching and non-teaching staff. It provides a single digital record of a student’s journey from pre-primary to Class 12, besides enabling digital access to teachers’ service records and professional development.
Rio also virtually commissioned the 10 MW Hovukhu Solar Power Plant (Phase I and II) under the Department of New & Renewable Energy at Hovukhu village in Niuland district. The two 5 MW phases were commissioned in April 2022 and December 2023 respectively. Spread over 50 acres, the project was constructed at a cost of Rs.69.26 crore under SASCI and State Plan and is expected to generate around 12 million units annually.
Rio also released Phase II of the documentation project on traditional attires and ornaments of the Angami and Sangtam tribes, undertaken by NHHDCL to preserve and promote indigenous cultural heritage and traditional knowledge.
He further virtually commissioned the Naga Integrated Settled Farming Irrigation Project at Boke Botsa, Kohima, funded under the Chief Minister’s New Initiative Scheme in 2025 at an estimated cost of Rs.1.5 crore. The project aims to demonstrate integrated water management and sustainable development.
