DIMAPUR: As part of its ongoing 10 day Pisciculture Training Programme, the SBI Rural Self Employment Training Institute (SBI RSETI), Peren organised a field visit for trainees to the Brooder Fish Farm, Half Nagarjan, Dimapur, on August 13.
The training programme, which commenced on August 8, will conclude on August 17. The initiative aims to equip rural unemployed youths with practical skills in pisciculture and encourage self employment and sustainable livelihood opportunities.
With approval from the District Fishery Officer (DFO), Dimapur, the tour was guided by Dr. Nchumbeni Humtsoe, Sub Divisional Fishery Officer, and assisted by Susan, Assistant Fishery Inspector. Their guidance enabled trainees to gain exposure to technical and practical aspects of fisheries and ornamental fish culture. The interaction highlighted pisciculture and allied activities as viable avenues for self employment, income generation and sustainable rural livelihoods.
The visit to the fish museum provided insights into various fish species, fisheries resources and the sector’s significance. An interaction and feedback session with fisheries officials and subject matter specialists focused on fish farming, management practices and livelihood opportunities. The exposure bridged the gap between theoretical learning and practical application, motivating trainees to pursue entrepreneurial ventures in pisciculture.
SBI RSETI Peren expressed appreciation to the Department of Fisheries & Aquatic Resources, Government of Nagaland for its cooperation in facilitating the visit, which contributed significantly to skill development, self employment and rural livelihood promotion.
