MOKOKCHUNG, AUG 16 (NPN): The Mokokchung District Football Association (MDFA) on August 16 announced that the prestigious Dr. T. Ao Inter-District Football Tournament 2026 will commence on October 12, at the Rempu Lu Astro Turf Ground, Ungma.
Welcoming teams from all 17 districts of Nagaland, MDFA president N. Akok Longkumer highlighted that this year’s edition marks the silver jubilee celebration of the tournament. He assured that the association is preparing to host the event in a befitting manner, recalling that Mokokchung had successfully hosted the tournament two years ago.
Preparations are underway under the leadership of advisor, Temjenmenba, MLA, who is serving as the convener of the organizing committee. It was further informed that the MDFA Trophy will remain cancelled this year to prioritize the inter-district championship.
Regarding infrastructure, officials reported that 80% of construction work at the turf ground has been completed and the venue will be ready before the tournament begins. The Mokokchung team squad was also announced, comprising 20 players along with a coach and team manager, with MDFA expressing confidence in their ability to lift the championship.
Meanwhile, MDFA also commemorated Futsal Day with a brief programme followed by an Under-15 futsal match. The celebration concluded with an exhibition match between MDFA and Mokokchung Press Club, adding to the festive spirit ahead of the forthcoming tournament.
