DIMAPUR, AUG 19 (NPN): The Nagaland Taekwondo Association (NTA) has brought laurels to the state by winning two medals at the 5th India Taekwondo National Championship, held in Pune, Maharashtra, from August 16 to 21.
Nagaland was represented by four players in the Cadet Boys category, with Sudeh Lamliu clinching a silver medal in the Under-33 kg category and Rishi Doimary securing a bronze in the Under-45 kg category.
Lamliu impressed throughout the championship, defeating opponents from Gujarat, Uttar Pradesh and Telangana to reach the final. Despite a spirited effort, he narrowly lost to Mizoram’s representative, settling for silver.
Doimary also showcased determination in the Under-45 kg category. After a first-round bye, he overcame challengers from Puducherry and Rajasthan before bowing out in the semifinal against Dadra and Nagar Haveli, earning bronze.
The NTA congratulated both athletes for their achievements and praised all four cadet players for their discipline, courage and sporting spirit. The association expressed gratitude to Director of the Department of Youth Resources & Sports, Government of Nagaland, Kethosituo Sekhose, for continued support and acknowledged the Nagaland Police Department for permitting Nagaland Police Taekwondo Team Coach, Seyievili Angami, to accompany the players.
Special appreciation was extended to Grand Master Lee Jeong Hee, Korea Dispatch Coach to India and Senior Director of India Taekwondo, for his guidance and to president of NTA, Master Pele Khezhie, for his leadership in promoting Taekwondo in the state.
The Nagaland team was led by T. Alem Aier as team manager and Seyievili Angami as team coach.
