MOKOKCHUNG, AUG 19 (NPN): A one day workshop on ‘One District One Product’ (ODOP)- Coffee was held at Mokokchung on Wednesday, organised by the District Industries Centre (DIC), Mokokchung. The workshop focused on marketing, branding and packaging to strengthen entrepreneurship and promote local coffee.
Delivering the keynote address, Deputy Commissioner Mokokchung, Ajit Kumar Verma, said the programme aimed at value addition of coffee, noting that Mokokchung was gradually becoming a promising outlet for coffee consumption. He pointed out that coffee is among the most desired beverages globally and expressed hope that local growers would meet market demands. Stressing the importance of maintaining purity and quality, he said coffee has huge market potential and added that the workshop would help boost production and create significant impact in the district.
Earlier, B. Asangla, General Manager, DIC Mokokchung, delivered the welcome address. She explained that ODOP is a national initiative of the Government of India to identify and promote at least one product from each district that reflects its strength and uniqueness. Mokokchung, she said, has chosen coffee as its strength and potential, and the challenge now is to transform this into a sustainable brand.
She described the programme as significant, being the first major initiative in the district dedicated to ODOP. While acknowledging that the ODOP journey in Mokokchung was still evolving, she expressed confidence that the workshop would lay a strong foundation for building a robust coffee ecosystem.
Asangla further informed that Mokokchung has around 820 hectares of coffee plantation spread across 72 villages, with an annual production of 25-30 metric tonnes. She concluded that the workshop would help create an environment that is practical, relatable and encouraging for entrepreneurs and farmers.
