DEC reviews RDSS progress in Dimapur

DIMAPUR: District Electricity Committee (DEC), Department of Power, Nagaland, at its first meeting held on Wednesday reviewed progress on smart metering, transformer installation and upgradation, reconductoring of 11 kV and 33 kV lines, cabling and electrification of left out households.
For Dimapur, the DEC informed that sanctioned works include new and upgraded 11 kV lines, distribution transformers, reconductoring of 11 kV and 33 kV lines and HT cabling, with a total sanctioned cost of Rs. 459.22 crore, a DIPR report stated.
Chairperson of DEC and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir, who attended the meeting, sought clarification on challenges faced in smart meter installation, particularly consumer reluctance, and stressed the need for greater awareness and coordination to ensure smooth implementation.
Reviewing state wide progress, it was informed that 3,17,210 consumer meters, 6,276 DT meters, 24 boundary meters and 368 feeder meters had been awarded under RDSS. In Dimapur, 76,368 consumer meters, 1,574 DT meters, three boundary meters and 52 feeder meters were awarded, with 21,568 consumer meters, 386 DT meters and 44 feeder meters installed as of August 14, 2026.
Earlier, chairing the review meeting, Deputy Commissioner Dimapur, Dr. Tinojongshi Chang, welcomed members and officials, noting that it was the first sitting of the committee and thanked all for their participation. Department of Power presented a detailed report on the Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), a flagship programme of the Ministry of Power, Government of India, aimed at improving electricity supply quality and reliability, strengthening distribution infrastructure, reducing Aggregate Technical and Commercial (AT&C) losses and ensuring financial sustainability of the power sector.
Quality assurance measures, including field inspections and physical verification, were also reviewed. Two flying squads headed by Superintending Engineers have been constituted for inspection of smart metering and infrastructure works.
The meeting further reviewed the Rooftop Solar (RTS) component under PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. A total of 826 applications had been received through the National Portal, of which 473 installations were completed, with a total installed capacity of 1.58 MW.
On financial progress, it was informed that as of August 12, 2026, Rs. 115.84 crore had been released and utilised under the Government of India component, while Rs. 13.55 crore had been released and utilised under the State component.
The committee emphasised timely implementation, quality control and coordination among stakeholders, while also highlighting the need to address right of way and land related issues and ensure effective installation of smart meters to achieve RDSS objectives.
