SHILLONG, AUG 20: Meghalaya chief minister Conrad Sangma on Thursday spoke with his Assam counterpart Himanta Biswa Sarma over the violence during the KSU black-flag bike rally in Shillong and its fallout on inter-state commuters.
The two chief ministers agreed to work together to restore peace, trust and normalcy. Designated Cabinet Ministers from both states will meet to take the discussions forward. Sangma urged citizens to maintain peace and restraint, stressing the deep social, economic and familial ties between Assam and Meghalaya. Sarma described the two as “sister States” and called for mutual respect and sensitivity.
The developments followed protests and blockades at inter-state entry points amid reports of attacks on Meghalaya vehicles in Assam. Meghalaya Police arrested KSU leaders over alleged violence and vandalism.
