Wokha-Hanimi road: delegation seeks Centre’s support for NH status

WOKHA, AUG 20 (NPN): Following the State Cabinet’s decision to upgrade the Wokha-Hanimi road as a National Highway, deputy chief minister Y. Patton, advisor for Agriculture Mhathung Yanthan, advisor for SCERT & Food Processing Achumbemo Kikon and Y. Mhonbemo Humtsoe, MLA met Union Minister of State (IC) for Science & Technology and Earth Sciences and MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh, in New Delhi on August 20.
The delegation discussed the Cabinet’s decision and sought the Centre’s support for declaring the road a National Highway. Dr. Jitendra Singh assured them that he would look into the matter and extend necessary assistance to facilitate the declaration.
Patton later said on social media that the delegation had a constructive discussion with the Union minister on key development priorities and expressed gratitude for his consideration of the issues raised.
The State Cabinet had approved the approximately 70-km Wokha-Hanimi road, from Zero Point, Wokha, to Yankeli village, as a National Highway at its August 6 meeting held at Doyang and chaired by chief minister Neiphiu Rio.
The long-awaited road passes through the Lotha-inhabited area and is expected to improve regional connectivity and provide a shorter alternative route towards Dimapur. The four MLAs had also expressed gratitude to Rio for the Cabinet’s approval.
