WOKHA, AUG 20 (NPN): Naga People’s Front (NPF) Wokha district youth wing organised the ‘One Nagaland Run 5K’ here Thursday on the theme “Running Together, Growing Together,” following a directive from the party’s central youth wing.
Advisor to the chief minister and NPF senior vice president, central office bearers (COB), Dr. Chumben Murry, attended the event as the special guest and flagged off the run.
The programme began with a dedication prayer led by NPF Wokha division working president Lilly Lotha.
A total of 111 participants registered for the event, of whom 86 runners—58 men and 28 women—took part.
In the men’s category, Renthungo Tsanglao secured first place with a timing of 16 minutes and 18 seconds, followed by Abemo Kithan at 16:49 and Nchumbemo C. Humtsoe at 17:20.
In the women’s category, Mercy Ezung emerged first with a timing of 20:38, followed by Chumbeno R. Kikon at 20:53 and Jemie Y at 21:27.
Speaking at the event, Murry appreciated the NPF Wokha youth division and the Wokha Athletic Association for organising the run. He noted that the NPF youth wing had recently conducted health camps across four constituencies in Wokha district and said the event formed part of its broader effort to promote health and well-being, particularly among young people.
Murry said politics and governance should not be limited to running the government but should also reflect concern and sensitivity toward citizens. He also appreciated the participation of the runners, describing the turnout as encouraging.
He said the participation of young people conveyed a positive message that they were becoming increasingly conscious of their health and well-being.
At the prize distribution ceremony, Wokha Town Council chairperson Myingthungo Kikon attended as the patron. He thanked the individuals and organisations that extended physical, moral and financial support toward the event.
Referring to the theme, “Running Together, Growing Together,” Kikon encouraged participants to value participation over winning, saying their involvement had given greater meaning to the event and set a positive example for the community.
