NEW DELHI, AUG 23 (PTI): Days after arresting an absconding accused in a case involving the recovery of an AK-47 rifle and live ammunition in Muzaffarpur, the National Investigation Agency (NIA), in a joint operation with Bihar STF, has arrested another absconding accused allegedly involved in smuggling prohibited-bore weapons from Nagaland to Bihar, officials said on Sunday.
The accused, identified as Karamullah, was arrested from Bihar’s Saran district on Saturday. The NIA had earlier arrested Bhairaw Tripathi, another absconding accused in the case, from Muzaffarpur on August 19.
According to the NIA, Karamullah allegedly conspired with other accused to smuggle sophisticated prohibited-bore weapons from Nagaland to Bihar, allegedly with the intention of disrupting public peace and endangering national security.
The case was initially registered by Bihar Police at Fakuli police station on May 7, 2024, following the recovery of an AK-47 rifle with lens and live ammunition from Murghatiya Bridge in Muzaffarpur. The case was subsequently taken over by the NIA.
The agency has filed three supplementary chargesheets in the case against several accused.
