DIMAPUR: As part of MRMA 2.0, an awareness programme on host plant cultivation practices for Eri and Muga silkworm culture was conducted at Silouphe, Medziphema, Chümoukedima, on August 18.
The programme was attended by Dr. Anil Kumar ST, Scientist B, CSB MESSO, P3 Unit, Narayanpur, and Pete, Sericulture Supervisor, Chümoukedima, who interacted with farmers and provided technical guidance on adopting improved host plant cultivation practices to ensure better leaf yield and sustainable silkworm production.
The session focused on the importance of proper host plant cultivation and management for successful Eri and Muga silkworm rearing. Key aspects discussed included suitable host plants, nursery establishment, planting methods, spacing, weeding, nutrient management, pruning and regular maintenance.
The programme aimed to create awareness among farmers and encourage adoption of scientific practices to enhance productivity and sustainability in sericulture.
