DIMAPUR: Thenyizumi Students’ Union Kohima (TSUK) organised its 31st general session and freshers’ social 2026 on Saturday at Baptist High Auditorium, Mission Compound, Kohima, with Commandant of the 10th NAP (IR) Battalion, Zhadima, Kenesa Dawhuo, as guest speaker.
Congratulating the freshers, Dawhuo said the new phase of their lives should serve as a stepping stone towards greater responsibilities and achievements. He encouraged students to develop their mentality and personality as they moved from one milestone to another, stressing the importance of self assessment and self awareness.
Acknowledging that students may sometimes face doubts and inadequacy, he urged them to build mental strength to overcome challenges. He described student life as a crucial phase for making career and life decisions, reminding them that academics must remain their primary responsibility. Dawhuo called upon students to cultivate discipline, patience and positive attitudes, stressing that restraint developed during student life would prove rewarding in the long run.
He also underscored the importance of holistic well being-physical, mental and spiritual-and encouraged financial literacy and sound financial habits from an early age. On technology, Dawhuo observed that the internet and AI era has blurred distinctions between original and AI generated content. While acknowledging its convenience, he cautioned against excessive dependence, urging students to use technology judiciously as a tool for learning rather than a source of distraction.
He warned that social media and attention capturing technologies could contribute to anxiety and confusion, stressing the need for self awareness in navigating the digital environment. He further called upon students and professionals to give back to society through their services and resources.
Delivering greetings, Zhothiyi Dawhuo, VCC of Thenyizumi Village, described Thenyizumi as a God gifted village and urged citizens to live with humility and excellence, respect elders, fear God and honour teachers, parents and leaders.
Earlier, TSUK president Er. Vede Dawhuo, in his presidential address, congratulated achievers and said technology should be used as a tool for growth, not a limitation. He encouraged students to remain disciplined, truthful, use time wisely and keep faith in God.
During the achievers’ talk, Kepozo Kapuh urged students to recognise opportunities around them, not fear mistakes, and learn from failures. He said opportunities abound but often go unnoticed, and encouraged students not to take life for granted.
The education and statistical report was presented by Akhone Nienu, while Vetshelu Thisa delivered a speech on behalf of the freshers. A new team of TSUK office bearers for 2026 27 was installed, with Sevosalu Resu as president, Vedecuyi Rokha as vice president, Vevosu Thisa as general secretary and Kevedu Rhakho as assistant general secretary, among others.
