IMPHAL, AUG 22: Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday reiterated his government’s call for dialogue among the communities.
“There can be no peace without dialogue among the communities, Singh said, stressing the need to remain positive in people’s thinking towards bringing development in society.
The chief minister was addressing after inaugurating a mechanized rotary parking facility in Imphal’s Nagamapal.
He stated that there cannot be development in the state without bringing peace and for bringing back peace dialogue among the communities was a must.
On the mechanized rotary parking facility inaugurated today, the chief minister said that collective efforts by the local residents and the Bazaar community were required to ensure proper functioning of the parking facility.
Attending the event MLA Khumukcham JoyKisan Singh highlighted the problems faced by the people due to limited parking space in the market area and stated that the government had come up with the idea of constructing the parking facility to address the issue. He lauded the chief minister’s initiative in resuming bus services in the state.
State chief secretary Dr Puneet Kumar Goel, in his speech on the occasion, stated that it was a very important milestone for Imphal with the inauguration of the mechanized rotary parking system.
It was the first of the four proposed facilities across the city, he said and added that Imphal like other capital cities is facing growing pressure of parking space due to increasing urbanisation and the rising number of vehicles.
It has led to an increasing demand for an organized parking facility, he added.
Resumption of Imphal-Guwahati bus service will provide relief to people: Manipur CM
Resumption of the Imphal-Guwahati passenger service will provide relief to the people of the state, said Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh on Saturday as four more inter-state buses and six passenger vehicles left Imphal on the second day of resumption of the service.
After more than three years of suspension, the passenger bus service between Imphal and Guwahati via Dimapur was resumed on Friday with two buses and five passenger vehicles carrying 125 passengers departed Imphal in the morning.
The vehicles have reached Guwahati with no untoward incident throughout the route.
Today more than 200 passengers left Imphal in a fleet of four buses and six Winger vehicles. The vehicles departed from the ISBT Khuman Lampak in Imphal today morning around 10 am.
The smooth resumption of the passenger service along the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-2, will provide much-needed relief to the people of the state, particularly students studying outside the state and those travelling for medical treatment, Manipur chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh said.
Addressing a gathering after inauguration of strengthening works of Wabagai Higher Secondary School in Kakching district, the chief minister took serious note of the costly air fare from Imphal to Guwahati.
Speaking on the adverse effect of the unprecedented crisis that began in May, 2023 in the state, Singh said that the crisis has caused immense hardships to the lives of people across the state, particularly the daily wage earners.
He added that following the government’s continuous efforts towards restoring peace and normalcy, public transport service along the Imphal-Dimapur section of the NH-2 have resumed from yesterday smoothly.
Notably, the resumption of public transport service along NH-2 came after chief minister Yumnam Khemchand Singh, deputy chief minister Nemcha Kipgen, and MLA Haokholet Kipgen jointly announced the reopening of the national highways for the free movement of all communities and the resumption of the Imphal-Dimapur-Guwahati bus service on August 8, 2026, in Kangpokpi district.
