Renewed sand mining in Kushiabill despite government restrictions

Sir,
I would like to once again bring to the attention of the concerned authorities and the people of Dimapur the alarming situation regarding the renewed and heavy sand mining activities in the Kushiabill area.
Despite the Government having issued strict regulations and restrictions against illegal and excessive sand mining, the activity appears to have started again on a large scale. What is particularly concerning is that this is happening in an area already vulnerable to erosion and flooding. The Dhansiri River has been witnessing significant changes over the years. Even during periods of heavy rainfall and flooding, the riverbed in certain stretches continues to become deeper, while the strong current increasingly threatens the banks. In previous years, houses and valuable portions of land have already been washed away, while some structures and riverbank areas remain dangerously close to the brink of collapse. Yet, despite these warning signs, the situation does not appear to be receiving the urgency it deserves.
This should not be viewed merely as a local issue concerning a few individuals or a particular village. The consequences of uncontrolled sand mining can extend far beyond Kushiabill. Changes to the riverbed and riverbanks can affect adjoining areas and ultimately pose risks to the wider Dimapur region. Therefore, I sincerely appeal to the district administration, concerned departments, environmental authorities, media organisations and all responsible citizens to take notice of the situation and ensure that the existing rules are properly enforced. This is not about one person, one village or one group. This is about protecting our river, our land, our homes and the future safety of Dimapur as a whole. If action is delayed until more homes, land or lives are lost, it may be too late to undo the damage. The authorities must therefore act proactively rather than waiting for another disaster to occur. I request Nagaland Post to kindly highlight this matter so that it receives the attention it deserves.
