Rainfall activity to increase across state

DIMAPUR, AUG 25 (NPN): Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) has forecast increased rainfall activity across the state from August 26, with localized thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain expected at scattered locations through August 29.
On August 26, Longleng, Mokokchung, Peren, Phek, Tseminyu, Tuensang and Wokha are likely to experience thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rain at scattered locations. Rainfall is expected to become more widespread on August 27, with light to moderate rain likely at most places in Longleng, Peren, Tseminyu and Tuensang, while several other districts may experience localized thunderstorms and rain.
On August 28, thunderstorms, lightning and light to moderate rainfall are expected at scattered locations across parts of the state, with similar conditions likely on August 29, particularly over Longleng, Mokokchung, Mon, Peren, Tuensang and Zunheboto.
For the five-day period from August 25-29, Peren is expected to receive the highest cumulative rainfall at 93.83 mm, followed by Mokokchung at 88.83 mm and Longleng at 83.98 mm. Tuensang is likely to receive 64.99 mm, Tseminyu 63.58 mm, Wokha 58.38 mm, Phek 52.89 mm, Mon 51.53 mm and Dimapur 51.51 mm. Kohima may record around 43.96 mm.
NSDMA advised the public to avoid sheltering under isolated trees or near electric poles during thunderstorms and exercise caution while travelling in rain and poor visibility. Motorists were urged to take extra care on vulnerable and landslide-prone stretches.
The public was also advised to monitor updates through the Safer Nagaland mobile application and NSDMA Weather Portal.
