DIMAPUR: To honour the legacy of India’s bravehearts, Gorkha Youth Club Dimapur (GYCD) organised a voluntary blood donation camp at District Hospital Dimapur on August 25, 2026. The event marked the death anniversary of Major Durga Malla, the first Gorkha freedom fighter of the Indian National Army, who was executed by the British on August 25, 1944. The camp also paid tribute to Captain N. Kenguruse, MVC, the valiant Naga soldier who made the supreme sacrifice during the 1999 Kargil War.
The programme was chaired by Anand Gurung, advisor and programme coordinator. Representing the special guest Tungupu K. Zhimomi, president of Business Consultancy Network, Shikupu Zhimomi, general secretary, delivered the special address. He lauded GYCD for its noble deeds and tireless social dedication, noting that blood donation is the ultimate gift of life. Sharing a medical brief, Dr. Rongsenmar Longkumer, consultant and in charge of the Blood Bank, encouraged citizens to dismantle myths and fears associated with blood donation. He emphasised that individuals aged 18 and above, meeting medical fitness criteria, can safely donate blood twice a year. Highlighting the spirit of the initiative, Sumit Sunar, president of GYCD, stated that Gorkhas have always stood at the nation’s frontlines and remain ever ready to serve society and the country. Volunteers came forward with exemplary civic responsibility, and according to initial updates, 12 to 15 units of blood were collected.
